Invisalign in Richmond, VA

If you suffer from tooth gaps, underbite, or overbite and would prefer a treatment option that is not as noticeable as traditional braces, you may be a good candidate for Invisalign. Unlike traditional braces, which straighten teeth using wires and rubber bands, Invisalign aligns your teeth using a series of clear alignment trays that slip over your teeth and gradually guide your teeth into the proper positions.

Invisalign Process

The Invisalign process will begin with an initial consultation, during which Dr. Forbes will evaluate and scan your mouth to determine if Invisalign is the right treatment option for you. For more severe cases, traditional braces may be a more effective treatment option.  If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Forbes will make a map of your mouth using digital technology. This information will allow us to help design the smile you hope to achieve and make adjustments based on your face and bone structure. We can even show you what your smile will look like by the end of your Invisalign treatment. Once your treatment plan is determined, you can begin wearing your trays for the suggested length of time until you are ready to move on to the next set.

Advantages of Invisalign

Although the most obvious advantage of Invisalign treatment is improving the aesthetic appearance of your mouth, which in turn can help restore or boost your self-esteem, straightening your teeth with Invisalign also improves your oral health because straighter teeth are easier to clean and floss, which reduces your susceptibility to cavities.

Additional benefits that you will enjoy from Invisalign treatment include:

  • Magnetic Results: A bright, straight smile is like a magnet: it draws people to you and makes a bold first impression, and conveys that you take pride in your appearance and have good daily habits. With enhanced self-confidence and a magnetic smile, don’t be surprised if you see positive results in both you love life and professional life.
  • Practically invisible: One of the biggest reasons Invisalign is so popular is because the trays are practically invisible.
  • Safe: The material of the Invisalign trays are FDA-approved.
  • Comfortable: Although you may experience some mild discomfort following placement of your new trays, the Invisalign process is far more comfortable than traditional braces and will not irritate your mouth.
  • Removable: Although it is important to wear your trays 20-22 hours a day, you will benefit from being able to remove them before eating and/or while brushing your teeth.
  • Customized Treatments: We use digital technology to map your mouth in order to design Invisalign treatment to your specific needs.

Invisalign Cleaning and Oral Hygiene

Brushing and flossing your teeth twice daily is always an important thing to do, but it is especially important for patients undergoing Invisalign treatment. This is due to the fact that reinserting your aligners without brushing, flossing, and rinsing your teeth can cause food and bacteria to become trapped and in close contact with your teeth, which increases your risk of developing tooth discoloration and/or cavities. If you are out to eat and not able to brush and floss your teeth, the best alternative is to rinse your mouth with water and chew sugarless gum prior to putting your tray back in.

In addition to taking good care of your teeth, it is equally important that you clean your trays every time you brush your teeth and before you put them back in using the Invisalign® special cleaning kit. Mild soap or fluoride toothpaste can also be used to clean your trays. If you are unable to brush your aligners, rinsing them with warm water before putting them back in your mouth is your next best option.

In addition to following these best practices, it is important to schedule a regular examination with us at least twice a year, or with greater regularity if you are at an increased risk of developing oral health issues. These visits ensure that Dr. Forbes can evaluate your oral health and identify issues before they develop into something worse. They also allow us to perform one of our three types of dental exams: a limited exam (for specific concerns), comprehensive exam (thorough examination of your overall oral health followed by treatment recommendations), or our signature exam, which includes the comprehensive exam as well as a full head and neck exam and ideas for a Digital Smile Design.

Cost of Invisalign

Several factors will determine the total cost of Invisalign, the biggest being the severity of your case and whether the procedure is covered (and if so, how much) by your dental insurance plan. Prior to scheduling any procedure, we will discuss the anticipated costs, verify your benefits (if applicable) to determine out-of-pocket costs, and answer any questions you may have about billing.

If you are not covered under a dental insurance plan, or if you are simply interested in saving money, consider joining the Capital Dental Design Membership Plan. Although we make every effort to keep our services affordable for all patients, joining our membership plan allows us to save you even more money by covering the cost of preventive care such as cleanings, exams, and routine x-rays. We also offer discounts of 10-15% on other dental services offered at our clinic. To learn more about our membership plan, payment options, or anticipated costs, contact our office today!

If you have not joined us as a patient yet and/or if you would like to schedule an appointment to determine whether Invisalign is right for you, contact us today online or call us directly at (804) 320-8894.
