Dental Implants & Implant Restoration in Richmond, VA

Dental implants are one of the most effective restorative dentistry options available, because they improve your functionality, reduce your risk of developing future oral and health issues, and restore you back to having a bright, full smile. Having a missing tooth or teeth can negatively impact your life in so many ways. You can’t enjoy all the foods you once did, your speech becomes altered, and oftentimes people with missing teeth feel self-conscious and experience lowered self-esteem. While there are other treatment options for correcting missing teeth, such as dentures, they do not provide the same natural look and feel as dental implants and also do not stop the loss of jawbone and/or additional teeth.

At Capital Dental Design in Richmond, we can restore your beautiful smile and ability to make full use of your teeth. To learn more about dental implants and/or implant restoration, please refer to the following, or schedule an appointment today. We proudly serve patients throughout Richmond and the surrounding area, including neighborhoods like Southampton, Stratford Hills, Westover Hills, Bon Air, Libbie and Grove, Church Hill, The Fan, Westham, Museum District, and Mooreland Farms.

Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process will begin with an initial consultation, during which Dr. Forbes will evaluate and scan your mouth to determine if you are a viable candidate for dental implants. If it is determined that dental implants are the best treatment option for you, Dr. Forbes will use ultramodern imaging to determine the strongest, densest places in your jawbone to place the titanium posts. Following this, you will need to return an additional two to four times to complete the dental implant process. In some cases, it may also be necessary to extract a tooth or teeth and/or perform a bone graft for patients who have lost too much jawbone to adequately support an implant.

Prior to placing the titanium post, we will numb the area where the post is being placed. Dental sedation is also available to ensure you experience minimal discomfort and are able to remain relaxed while the procedure is performed. Once you are comfortable, we will make a small incision in your gums and place the post. After placement, the titanium post will require time to fully fuse with your jawbone (3-6 months). During this time, you will be given a temporary prosthetic. Once the posts have fully fused, you will return for placement of your permanent crown.

Dental Implant Restoration

Although the dental implant procedure is usually successful, there are times when the implant becomes damaged or fails. This can happen for several reasons, and is more likely in patients who have osteoporosis, diabetes, bruxism, autoimmune disorders, a history of gum disease, or who do not practice good oral hygiene. Common indications that an implant requires restoration is inflammation or pain around the implant. Recessed and/or bleeding gums and an implant that is loose are also common signs that there is an issue that needs to be addressed. If you are experiencing any issues with your implant, contact Dr. Forbes who can fix the problem and restore you back to a bright, healthy smile.

Cost of Dental Implants and Implant Restoration

Several factors will determine the total cost of your dental implants and/or implant restoration, such as the severity of your case, how many implants are placed or restored, if dental sedation is necessary, and whether the procedure is covered (and if so, how much) by your dental insurance plan. Prior to scheduling any procedure, we will discuss the anticipated costs, verify your benefits (if applicable) to determine out-of-pocket costs, and answer any questions you may have about billing.

If you are not covered under a dental insurance plan, or if you are simply interested in saving money, consider joining the Capital Dental Design Membership Plan. Although we make every effort to keep our services affordable for all patients, joining our membership plan allows us to save you even more money by covering the cost of preventive care such as cleanings, exams, and routine x-rays. We also offer discounts of 10-15% on other dental services offered at our clinic. To learn more about our membership plan, payment options, or anticipated costs, contact our office today!
