How is bonding used to repair teeth?
Composite bonding is used for a wide range of dental issues. Most people associate bonding with fillings after tooth decay is removed but it is also used to fix chipped teeth and diastemas.
For cavities, your dentist will remove the decay and fill the opening with tooth colored composite bonding. This method is only appropriate for small cavities, larger decay may require a porcelain onlay or crown.

What is the procedure for dental bonding?
When a patient needs bonding to repair a chip or space, an acid etching solution is applied to give the composite material a rough surface to properly adhere to. Your dentist will then apply the composite material to the surface of the tooth and cure it with an ultraviolet light.
Finally, they will refine the shape and smooth and polished the tooth to a natural finish.
If a tooth has decay, your dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area before they drill out the decay and infection in any affected teeth. Once the area is cleared of infection, the tooth is cleaned and dried and the tooth-colored composite material is used to fill the hole.
