General Dentistry
Advanced periodontal care to halt disease progression, restore gum health, and protect your teeth and bone from further damage.
Understanding the Problem
According to the CDC, 50 percent of Americans have some form of gum disease. It develops when bacteria attaches to teeth and multiplies to form plaque. Plaque that remains leads to gingivitis, the first stage of periodontal disease. Without treatment, it progresses to periodontitis, where deeper pockets form and both soft and hard tissues degrade. Scaling and root planing is the first line of defense.
Without strong, healthy gum tissue, even the most beautiful teeth are at risk. Treating gum disease is not optional. It is essential.
Treatment Options
Treatment ranges from deep cleanings to surgical intervention. Scaling and root planing removes plaque from under the gum line. Pocket reduction surgery allows access to deep pockets. Gingival grafts restore receded tissue. Guided bone and tissue regeneration rebuilds lost structures.

The Process
Every step is intentional. Nothing is rushed, nothing is improvised, and nothing moves forward without your understanding.
Dr. Forbes measures gum pocket depths around every tooth, evaluates tissue health, and reviews digital X-rays to determine the stage and severity of disease.
Based on the evaluation, a treatment plan is created. Early-stage disease may require scaling and root planing. Advanced cases may need surgical intervention.
A deep cleaning procedure removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line and smooths root surfaces to promote reattachment of healthy gum tissue.
For deep pockets or significant tissue loss, procedures such as pocket reduction surgery, gingival grafts, or guided tissue regeneration may be recommended.
Following treatment, we monitor healing closely. Pocket depths are re-measured to confirm improvement and determine if additional treatment is needed.
Patients with a history of gum disease require more frequent cleanings, typically every three to four months, to prevent recurrence and maintain results.

Why It Matters
Professional periodontal treatment stops the cycle of bacterial infection and tissue destruction before it causes irreversible damage.
Treating gum disease early is the most effective way to prevent tooth loss. Healthy gums hold teeth firmly in place.
Research links periodontal disease to increased risk of heart disease, diabetes complications, and respiratory illness. Treatment protects more than your mouth.
Gingival grafting and regeneration procedures can rebuild lost tissue and restore a healthy, natural gum line around your teeth.
Deep cleaning and surgical procedures remove the bacteria causing infection, relieving pain, swelling, and bleeding gums.
Untreated periodontal disease erodes the jawbone that supports your teeth. Treatment preserves bone volume and structural integrity.
