An all-on-four implant supported denture is a great way to restore missing teeth in one or both arches of the mouth. This type of denture is considered permanent and is not taken out for sleeping or for cleaning and is very beneficial for the health of bone structure since they help stimulate bone regeneration. Here are a few other frequently asked questions pertaining to an all-on-four denture.
What is an all-on-4 implant denture? An all-on-4 is a fixed, dental prosthesis that replaces all of the teeth on one or both arches of your mouth. The denture is screwed down onto the jaw using dental implants.
What is the difference between traditional dentures and an all-on-4? Traditional dentures are able to be removed by the patient for cleaning and sleeping while an all-on-4 is screwed into implants and cannot be removed except by a Dentist. All-on-4 dentures look more natural as well!
Where are all-on-4 dentures made? Some offices have the technology to fabricate your all-on-4 in-house from start to finish while others utilize dental labs to create your new smile.
Do all-on-4 dental implants look natural? Since they are made using porcelain teeth, not only do all-on-4s look natural but they also feel and function just like your natural teeth did. They are incredibly secure and do not slip while you are eating or speaking.
What is the success rate for all-on-4s? Studies show a 98% success rate.
How long does implant surgery take for all-on-4 dentures? Depending on the number of implants you are receiving, surgery can take at least three hours per arch.
Who is the ideal candidate for an all-on-4? Regardless of age, any healthy adult patient who is missing all or most of their teeth on either one or both arches may be a candidate for this procedure.
Can an all-on-4 be placed on another arch at a later date? You can have an all-on-4 placed on either arch at different times but it will save you a lot of time and money if they are done simultaneously.
Why are temporary teeth placed instead of the permanent denture the day my implants are placed? The temporary denture is placed to allow healing time and also helps you become accustomed to your new teeth! As you heal, swelling will subside and your temporary denture may need to be adjusted. Once you are fully healed, after about six months, swelling will subside and your implants will be fully integrated with your jaw bone and you will be able to have your permanent denture placed.
How do I clean my all-on-4? You should brush your denture twice daily just like you did your natural teeth. When you see your dentist for your professional cleaning, they will remove the denture and the hygienist will clean the implants and the denture separately before your dentist reaffixes it back in place.
